We’re Hiring a Pediatric Cardiologist on Vancouver Island
Island Health is seeking a pediatric cardiologist to join a thriving and growing hospital-based service. Victoria General Hospital (VGH) is the regional pediatric referral center for Vancouver Island.
The Department of Pediatrics in Victoria provides services to a population of over 800,000. VGH serves as the community and regional tertiary pediatric center for Vancouver Island. You will join staff consisting of general pediatricians, with pediatric-specific subspecialty support including NICU, PICU, cardiology, respirology, neurology, nephrology, rheumatology, endocrinology, pediatric general surgery, pediatric urology, hematology, oncology, allergy & immunology.
The successful candidate will join a long-standing practice providing consultative non-invasive cardiology services. Skill set must include all aspects of general pediatric cardiology, with special emphasis on echocardiography. This is a busy ambulatory clinic with well integrated echo and ECG services. We provide outreach clinics to Nanaimo with the potential to expand to other centers on the Island. Inpatient services include support to general pediatrics, level 3 NICU and PICU at VGH. There are excellent echo, electrodiagnostic and nursing supports. The obstetrical service is well supported by Maternal Fetal Medicine and Medical Genetics.
This position will include clinical teaching responsibilities with the Island Medical Program, and a cross appointment with the Division of Cardiology at BC’s Children’s Hospital.
The Communities
Located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, on the homelands of the Songhees and Esquimalt People, Victoria is a forward-thinking, active community and the largest city on the Island. The municipality of Victoria is home to approximately 92,000 people with the Greater Victoria region counting over 397,000 residents.
The capital city of British Columbia has a dynamic, thriving economy and a vibrant arts and culture scene, with an unparalleled natural environment enjoyed by residents and visitors. For children entering elementary and secondary school, education options are available through School District 61 or other private alternatives. The University of Victoria, Royal Roads University and Camosun College are all highly esteemed post secondary options in the area.
