ACADEMIC POSITION – Cardiac and Cardio-Oncology rehabilitation

The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care is seeking a physician for a full-time clinical academic appointment to Western University.

Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) in the province of Ontario.

The Division of Cardiology is well-recognized and respected both nationally and internationally. The Division’s 30 physicians provide secondary, tertiary, and quaternary cardiovascular services for the City of London, Southwestern Ontario and beyond. The Division has the largest Royal College Subspecialty Training Program in the Department of Medicine. Research expertise within the Division is extensive.

Applicants for this position will have a commitment to and demonstrated aptitude for teaching and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise graduate trainees. Experience with clinical research and ongoing interest in collaborating with colleagues or leading clinical research projects to enhance research productivity in the Division would be a welcome asset. Consideration of applicants will include a review of previous performance in teaching, research, health care leadership, qualifications (including subspecialty and enhanced training), experience and interpersonal skills. Rank, term of appointment and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and compensation will be comprised of fee for service, alternative funding plan and academic salary.

The Division of Cardiology is seeking a Cardiologist whose career focus is in Cardiac Rehabilitation with particular expertise in cardio-oncology and cardio-oncology rehabilitation. Such individuals should have academic interest in medical education and / or quality improvement to fulfill a clinician teacher or researcher position. The successful candidate is expected to have completed fellowship training in Cardiac Rehabilitation. Expertise in cardiopulmonary exercise testing and interpretation is necessary. Strong preference will be given to applicants with a track record of leadership in cardiac rehabilitation delivery for special populations. They must be able to develop a quality improvement strategy that includes appropriate educational strategies for the local and regional expansion of cardiac rehabilitation services to include these special populations. The successful candidate will hold a limited term academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a continuing academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will join a busy academic practice of three other academic Cardiac Rehabilitation cardiologists working within a teaching hospital environment where the primary duties will involve management of cardiology patients in the ambulatory Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic but there will also be some assigned weeks of general cardiology in-patient clinical teaching unit coverage. The successful candidate will also have a commitment to and demonstrated aptitude for teaching, and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise graduate trainees.
