Our institution is committed to creating an environment across all CMTN campuses where students and employees feel safe, valued, and supported.

Duties: Reporting to the Associate Vice President and Facilities Foreperson, the HVAC Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical, and building automation systems across Coast Mountain College campuses. The role ensures comfortable, safe, and energy-efficient building operations through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, boiler, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Install, program, monitor, and maintain Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, preferably Delta Controls.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment issues to ensure reliable system performance.
  • Conduct regular inspections, mechanical room checks, and maintain detailed maintenance records.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and participate in on-call duties as required.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Coordinate work schedules and collaborate with Facilities staff, contractors, and other departments.
  • Manage inventory, source parts and supplies, and assist with equipment procurement.
  • Operate College vehicles and support other campus maintenance activities, including grounds maintenance and snow removal when needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Red Seal HVAC Technician certification with a recognized trade certification in Refrigeration, Electrical, Plumbing, or Building Automation Systems.
  • Minimum five years of HVAC maintenance and repair experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with DDC preferably Delta Controls.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Fluent with building automation systems and energy management practices.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with an acceptable driver's abstract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional HVAC-related certifications.
  • Experience in educational or institutional setting.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency practices and sustainability initiatives.

Key Skills:

  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
