Body shop estimator Jobs in Mount Pearl, NL

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sheet Metal Shop Estimator/Detailer to join our fabrication team in St. John’s, NL. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, producing detailed shop drawings, and supporting project execution from bid through production. The ideal candidate must have strong technical knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

What will you do?

• Review drawings, specifications, and customer RFQs to prepare accurate estimates.
• Perform material take-offs for sheet metal components (HVAC, custom fabrication, etc.).
• Assess labour requirements, equipment needs, and production timelines.
• Prepare detailed estimates and maintain estimate documentation.
• Participate in estimate reviews prior to submittal to the client.
• Create shop drawings, layouts, and fabrication details using CAD software or similar (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
• Develop cut lists, flat patterns, and CNC-ready files where applicable.
• Ensure drawings meet project specifications, codes, and company standards.
• Coordinate with shop foreperson and production teams to ensure manufacturability.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and customers to resolve design issues.
• Assist with change orders, revisions, and cost adjustments.
• Support continuous improvement in estimating accuracy and shop efficiency.
• Participate in estimate reviews prior to submittal to the client.

What will you bring?

• Diploma or trade certification in sheet metal fabrication, estimating, or detailing.
• Strong understanding of sheet metal processes (cutting, forming, welding, assembly).
• Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) Experience with estimating software.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
