Position Summary
Biomedical Engineering Technologist, Biomedical Engineering
Your goal in this position is to serve as the primary medical equipment reference source for clinical staff and provide the necessary support/training to fulfil the descripted duties. In your role you will perform an array of duties including preventive maintenance, unscheduled service, project management collaboration, recall resolutions, installations, etc. You will use critical thinking skills and judgement to decide the best course of action to resolve issues as they arise and present to the manager for approval where applicable. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on a wide variety of medical equipment within the Biomedical Engineering department or in the patient care areas.
- Travel between multiple sites will be required. After-hours and/or on-call service is provided as required.
- Perform incoming inspections on equipment using appropriate standards and department protocols. Assure standards are met and alert or advise of deficient equipment.
- Document service and activity records using the computerized maintenance management program.
- Order parts and supplies as required, maintaining inventory or completing a repair.
- Provide clinical input to users as needed for evaluations and purchase decisions.
- Provide technical information to clinical and technical staff regarding safety, operation, maintenance, procurement, installation, and disposal of biomedical equipment.
- Carry out actions as required for device hazard alerts and recalls. Identify and notify management of any hazards involving medical equipment in clinical areas to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
- Perform cross-functional duties, as assigned and/or required.
Qualifications
- College or degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field.
- Achieved or can work towards OACETT Certification within 3 years after hire: OACETT - Ontario
- Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
- CBET (Certified Biomedical Engineering Technician/Technologist) is preferred.
- Have effective organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, and time-management skills.
