About the Company - Avia NG Airport Consultants represents the NextGen in airport consulting and brings together a unique team of experienced engineers, technologists and pilots that share a passion for airports and aviation. We take pride in creating and fostering a work environment where each person is treated as an individual and not a number. This passion motivates and drives us to deliver timely, high quality and innovative services to our clients and business partners. We like to think this has been the reason we’ve been growing so rapidly, because our employees are just as important as our clients. We treat all with integrity and foster transparency in our work - this is what fuels our success.

About the Role - We currently are seeking an experienced Construction Inspector who is ready to jump in and get started with projects right away.

What does a typical day look like for our Construction Inspector? - Every day will be quite different as you support our team in the delivery of airport infrastructure projects at various locations across Canada and the Caribbean. Traveling means you could be gone up to six (6) months, however we believe in the ability to maintain as much balance as possible in this position and while working on projects far from home you can expect to return every six (6) weeks for some down time. The costs associated with this role such as travel, meals and accommodations are reimbursed or paid through a living out allowance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review construction activities for compliance with health and safety requirements;
  • Maintain a photographic log of construction progress;
  • Prepare daily inspection logs including record of work hours, construction equipment, weather conditions, visitors, quality control and assurance testing, etc.;
  • Assist in project coordination duties including but not limited to the preparation of budget / schedule updates, progress payment certificates, shop drawing review, site instructions, sub-consultant coordination, commissioning phase activities, etc.;
  • Participate in weekly construction meetings, substantial / final completion inspections and prepare inspection reports / deficiency lists;
  • Assist in the preparation of as-built / redline drawings and warranty period documentation;

What do we need from you? - Our best fit for this role would be a detail-oriented individual who has excellent communication skills and is able to take initiative independently. Success in this position requires an individual with a passion to support our team in the delivery of airport infrastructure projects at various locations across Canada and the Caribbean. Additional skills and experience we are seeking :

  • Graduate of a three (3) year college program in a civil engineering technology discipline. CET designation is an asset
  • You have a minimum of five (5) years of years of experience in municipal engineering, transportation, construction inspection, land development, heavy civil construction, or related experience
  • You have a valid provincial driver’s license and vehicle, as you will be in the field often
  • Understanding of contract drawings and specifications
  • Demonstrated experience with the MS Office suite of programs (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of construction inspection practices, construction materials and equipment.
  • Strong communication and report writing skills and ability to prioritize / manage multiple project timelines
  • Mature, self-motivated individual possessing effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
