Job description

Niagara College acknowledges the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement. Today this gathering place is home to many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous peoples.

Located in the heart of the Niagara region – just minutes from one of the world’s most well-known tourism destinations – Niagara College offers more than 130 innovative programs between our campuses in Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Since opening its doors in 1967, Niagara College has grown to become a leader in education and training and one of the most enterprising colleges in Canada, currently ranked as Canada’s top applied research college in 2024.

Niagara College’s Division of Media, Trades, and Technology offers a comprehensive suite of in-demand programs that equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful careers in essential Canadian industries. Benefitting from experienced faculty, innovative learning environments, and strong industry partnerships, students gain practical experience and valuable skills that prepare them for fulfilling, exciting career opportunities that are at the forefront of rapidly evolving technological advancements and increased demand for skilled tradespeople.

Within this exciting context, Niagara College is seeking its next Dean of Media, Trades and Technology . Reporting to the Vice President Academic, the Dean will ensure efficient and effective divisional operations, and will develop and implement a strategic vision that aligns with Niagara College's goals through collaborations with faculty, staff, students, community partners, and industry leaders.

Additionally, the Dean will promote a culture of excellence in teaching, learning, applied research, and innovation. They will develop and oversee expansion of high-quality programs that meet student and market needs, plan for new facilities, inspire innovation amongst faculty, and foster strong partnerships with industry to enhance student learning and drive innovation, serving as a visible ambassador to the College within the community.

The ideal candidate will possess proven leadership experience in higher education or a similarly complex organization, strong industry and community connections, strategic thinking and planning skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a collaborative and entrepreneurial mindset, strong networking and relationship-building skills, and an advanced degree in a relevant field. To achieve success in this role, the successful candidate will possess experience creating an inclusive and equitable culture that values diversity.

Niagara College will begin considering candidates immediately, with the new Dean to take office ideally in the late winter of 2025. To submit a nomination or to apply directly, please write to Andrea Patrick and Krutika Hotwani of Odgers Berndtson at no later than November 28, 2024. Applications may be submitted or via our .

Niagara College is strongly committed to diversity and inclusion within its community. We offer an inclusive work environment and welcome applications from all qualified individuals who feel they can further enhance campus diversity and equity efforts. If requested, accommodations will be made to support applicants with disabilities during the recruitment and selection process.

All qualified applicants are invited to apply; however, Canadian citizen and permanent residents will be given priority.
