Job descriptionPerforms work in accordance with established processes and practices. Complies with internal and external requirements including environmental, health and safety, and fire protection. Responds to routine and on-demand service requests and performs preventative and corrective maintenance. Performs regular monitoring, inspection, and maintenance to ensure facility uptime and safety objectives are met, keeping client operations and asset integrity intact. Monitors the facility by conducting walkthroughs of mechanical and electrical equipment and systems. Assists in implementing the preventative maintenance program, identifies and escalates deficiencies, and maintains related documentation. Maintains an accurate inventory of tools / equipment and arranges for repair / replacement as required. Provides observations about facility conditions and recommends enhancements or repairs. Participates in and assists with facility-related projects. Ensures work is performed in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection, and other applicable requirements. Maintains tools and arranges for repair and replacement as required. Submits expenditures in a timely manner. Other duties as assigned. College diploma / certification required. Must be a licensed HVAC / Refrigeration Technician or registered apprentice. Strong ability to adhere to and execute processes for facility operations and maintenance. Capability to troubleshoot and resolve building mechanical and other system issues. Current knowledge of fire, life safety, building codes and standards; ability to research and apply related codes. Strong environmental, health and safety mindset; ability to perform work safely. Client-service orientation with a sense of urgency. Effective communication for data relay, feedback, and clarification. Mentoring skills to support lower-level technicians. Willingness to work shifts, be on-call / standby, and respond to emergencies. Willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment. Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements. Valid driver’s license. Must hold a valid HVAC Certificate of Qualification issued by the province of work (e.g., 313A in Ontario) or be a registered apprentice. Minimum of a Gasfitter II license in addition to refrigeration license. Building Environment Systems (BES) Operation Class 1 is an asset. Facilities Technician Certification is an asset. Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT) is considered an asset.

Summary
The HVAC Journeyperson or Apprentice roving position requires a valid Certificate of Qualification issued by the province where the work is performed. The incumbent is responsible for operating facility systems, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, and routine services on facility mechanical and related systems for the assigned facility, within company policy and trade certification. The role requires work in accordance with established processes and practices and compliance with internal and external requirements including environmental, health and safety, security and fire protection.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Installation & Troubleshooting
- Installs air conditioning, heating, and related equipment and components.
- Overhauls and services air conditioning and heating units and systems.
- Repairs, replaces and adjusts worn or broken parts of HVAC equipment.
- Repairs and adjusts valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings.
- Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems with heating and air conditioning units and systems.
- Installs motors, thermostats, and humidistats.
