About the Opportunity
Our client is an internationally recognized, employee‑owned architecture practice known for innovative, socially responsible, and design‑driven work. As the Toronto studio continues to grow, they are seeking an entrepreneurial
Principal
to help expand the practice, strengthen its presence in Canada, and lead major architectural commissions.
Reporting to the Partners, this leadership role combines business development, studio management, and high‑level design oversight. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of the Toronto team.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Market Growth
Build and secure new business opportunities across commercial workplace, science & tech, education, residential, and masterplanning.
Develop and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring the studio is competitive within its key sectors.
Establish networks with academics, engineers, developers, and consultants across Canada.
Represent the studio at industry events, conferences, and academic engagements.
Lead bid strategy in collaboration with the international bid team to pursue strategic project opportunities.
Form partnerships that enhance visibility and project pipeline.
Studio Leadership & Operations
Support overall management and evolution of the Toronto studio with a focus on culture, operational efficiency, and long‑term vision.
Contribute to strategic planning, resource management, and studio development.
Mentor team members and foster a collaborative, inclusive environment.
Maintain oversight of studio financial performance, including fees, staffing, and project health.
Project & Design Leadership
Provide high‑level design direction aligned with the practice’s design ethos and sustainability values.
Oversee multiple projects to ensure quality, client satisfaction, and timely delivery.
Encourage a creative, collaborative studio culture and guide teams toward design excellence.
Communications & Brand Presence
Work with the communications team to build the Toronto studio’s profile through PR, outreach, and thought leadership.
Contribute to articles, research initiatives, and public engagement activities.
Global Collaboration
Maintain a strong working relationship with international studios, supporting knowledge-sharing and coordinated initiatives.
Provide regular updates to senior leadership on business development activities and strategic growth.
Qualifications
Licensed Architect with the OAA or eligible for registration.
15+ years of experience, including senior leadership responsibilities.
Proven ability to win work and deliver large‑scale, complex projects.
Strong business development track record and client relationship skills.
Excellent communication, leadership, and mentorship capabilities.
Commitment to design excellence and sustainable architectural practice.
