Millwright Apprentice
Shift: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm
Location: Richmond
Payrate: $35/hr-$40/hr (Level 3 or 4 Millwright pay level)
Job Description
In this role as a Marine Mechanic, you will be responsible for the removal and replacement of engines, mechanical systems, and fluid systems in commercial vessels. You will perform technical inspections and maintenance tasks, ensuring the functionality and safety of commercial vessels. Your expertise will contribute to the seamless operation of maritime systems.
Responsibilities
- Remove and replace engines, mechanical systems, and fluid systems of commercial vessels.
- Perform TCI/CSI tasks, including prop replacement, shaft maintenance, and cutlass bearings checks.
- Take measurements and identify corrosion or wear on shafts and rudder stocks.
- Install new and additional equipment on vessels.
- Repair cooling and lubrication systems.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance work.
- Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
- Stay updated on changes in technology and repair techniques.
- Adhere to all safe work practices, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Work continuously to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes.
Essential Skills
- Millwright Apprentice - Level 3 and up
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical systems, including schematics and diagnostics.
- Strong safety mindset.
- Ability to take initiative and work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Capable of physically demanding work, including lifting and climbing on vessels.
- Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Quality-oriented with strong attention to detail.
Nice to Have Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Electrical experience with 12/24/110 volt systems is an asset.
- Previous welding and fabricating experience is an asset.
- Confined space training is an asset.
- Class 5 forklift ticket is an asset.
- Experience in marine and ship repair.

Work Environment
Work both indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions. Be prepared for physically demanding tasks and possible travel to off-site locations. Safety equipment, such as steel-toed safety boots and goggles, will be provided. Overtime and 24/7 availability may be required. You will report to a supervisor and work in a safety-focused environment.
