The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and St. Michael’s Hospital are seeking an academic anesthesiologist to fulfill a strategic role within the Department of Anesthesia at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The anticipated start date will be January-July 2025, or one which is mutually agreed upon.

The successful candidate will provide anesthetic care throughout the hospital programs including supervision and teaching of students, residents, and fellows. On-call services will be provided in rotation. Participation in formal in-house and University teaching programs, as well as hospital administrative duties, will be expected. Academic opportunities for research and teaching are available. Academic time is assigned according to an objective assessment of requirements. The incumbent will have major clinical responsibilities and in addition to their own academic activities, will facilitate the research, teaching, and education by others. Teaching may be done concurrently with clinical care and / or in organized educational programs. Strategic needs currently include, among others, cardiovascular anesthesia and cardiovascular critical care, interventional pain, obstetric anesthesia, and educational leadership.

The successful candidate must have a medical degree, postgraduate fellowship training, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Anaesthesia, or international equivalent, and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The successful candidate must have proven clinical skills at a high level, evidence of demonstrated excellence in research and / or education and / or quality improvement, and a commitment to teaching students, residents, and fellows. Scholarly excellence will be assessed using University of Toronto, Temerty Faculty of Medicine promotions guidelines.

Compensation for clinical activities and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and within the usual range for an academic anesthetist in the Province of Ontario ($300,000 – 500,000 per annum).
