Job description

ROLE SUMMARY :

The Director, Payments will be responsible for developing and executing the payments strategy across all products and services. Reporting to the Vice President, Strategy and Product, the Director, Payments will have an in-depth understanding of core and real-time payment solutions, clearing and settlement, Payments Canada rules and standards, and the overall Canadian payments landscape, including evolving customer needs and payments modernization.

The Director, Payments will lead efforts to strengthen, grow, and modernize product offerings across wires, bill payments, automatic funds transfers, cheque, Interac, e-Transfers, real-time rail, clearing and settlement, and reporting by effectively managing risks and aligning to the organization’s overall strategic direction. This role will be accountable for defining and delivering product roadmaps, managing P&L, engaging clients and key stakeholders, and developing and managing a high-performance team. This role will also work collaboratively with technology, operations, and program management office (PMO) teams, external stakeholders, and third-party partners as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Leadership in managing the current portfolio and product strategy and roadmap.
  • Drive client value propositions, positioning, segmentation, targeting, channel strategies, and competitive differentiation.
  • Oversee all aspects of product life cycle management as the product and business owner, including prioritization, business requirements, development, compliance and risk management, testing, and production launch.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPI’s) that measure product success and lead to continuous improvement.
  • Lead research and innovation through industry and market research.
  • Provide payments expertise to clients, prospective clients, and internal partners, and demonstrate thought-leadership in industry payments forums.
  • Oversee project development and infrastructure changes, including business requirements, collaboration and confirmation of functional requirements documents, satisfaction of governance criteria, compliance with AML and business risk requirements, review, and approval of test plans, and sign-off on production launch.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the brand, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervising the activity of others and creating accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS :

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred.
  • 15 plus years of product management experience, including a minimum of 8 years of managerial experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of payment solutions and the ecosystem, as well as industry networks.
  • Expert understanding of the regulatory requirements of the payments industry.
  • Experience with rolling out new products, improving processes, and managing projects is essential.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Resourceful, creative, and highly self-motivated individuals who can work in a fast-paced environment.
