Job description

Director, People Services

Community Living BC

British Columbia, Canada

Communities of belonging, lives with connection” is the vision that guides Community Living BC (CLBC), a Crown corporation that has been responsible for arranging supports and services for adults with developmental disabilities and their families since its inception in 2005. Emerging from a grassroots movement of families and self-advocates, CLBC was created to address their unique needs through a government-funded organization. The organization operates under the Community Living Authority Act, is subject to government policy, and reports to the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction through a dedicated Board. Today, CLBC serves over 29,000 individuals across the province. Its mandate is not only to build inclusion and provide quality opportunities to individuals and families, but to help create communities in which people with developmental disabilities have more meaningful choice regarding how they live, work, and contribute.

An opportunity now exists for a new Director, People Services to join the organization and further elevate its HR approach. Reporting to the Vice President, People and Culture and playing a key role on the Senior Management Team, the Director, People Services is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring CLBC’s people strategy and initiatives in alignment with the organizational strategic plan. Leading a solid team, the Director will foster an equitable and inclusive workspace reflective of the organization’s mission, vision, and values. The role oversees talent management / acquisition, employee / labour relations, people policies, total rewards programs, OHS compliance and wellness, and strategic workforce planning, all while championing equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The ideal candidate brings credibility and expertise as a strategic thinker and leader in the HR function, including in labour relations. Demonstrated success working in a complex, unionized public sector environment with a geographically dispersed workforce will be highly beneficial. Applicants should have exhibited leadership skills characterized by emotional intelligence, relationship building, coaching and motivation. This role will require strategic navigation of complex and sensitive situations and a strong attention to detail. Proven discretion and empathy in handling sensitive matters with confidentiality will be essential.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a purpose-driven HR leader to make a meaningful impact in an organization improving the lives of thousands in British Columbia.

The expected salary range for this role is $140,000-155,000, plus pension and benefits. Placement at the top end of the range may occur in limited circumstances.

CLBC’s flexible work model allows for a blend of on-site office work and remote work within BC, with the balance tailored to the needs of each role.

CLBC is based in South Vancouver, BC (Airport Square Office Tower near 70th Avenue and Granville Street) on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

However, all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
