A Day in the Life:

The Assistant Manager plays a key role in the efficient and profitable operation of the market centre. This role oversees and participates in all facility functions, including receiving, cleaning, drying, storing, and shipping grain products. The Assistant Manager ensures that all processing and warehousing standards are upheld, product quality meets end‑user specifications, and facility operations run safely and efficiently. By coordinating staff activities, monitoring inventory, and optimizing processes, this position directly contributes to operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and overall business profitability.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Supervise and perform grain handling activities, including receiving, cleaning, drying, storing, and shipping of all facility products.

  • Assign and oversee staff duties, monitor work results, and provide input for performance reviews to ensure efficient task completion.

  • Monitor product quality to meet end-user specifications and maintain an up-to-date understanding of customer requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with processing, warehousing, ISO, and HACCP standards, supporting strong operational quality controls.

  • Monitor facility and processing costs and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and profitability.

  • Coordinate with Logistics to ensure appropriate inventory levels for shipping requirements and maintain processed grain samples.

  • Conduct regular housekeeping inspections and coordinate with maintenance teams to optimize facility operations and ensure clean, safe working conditions.

  • Perform inventory checks to verify proper warehousing and product maintenance.

  • Support strong customer relationships by ensuring service excellence and high-quality shipments.

  • Provide cross-training and coverage for other operational roles during absences to maintain workflow continuity.

  • Perform other operational duties as required to support facility success.

Skills/Experience Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree in Agri‑Business.

  • Minimum four (4) years of related supervisory experience.

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Technical Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of grain regulations and industry policies.

  • Proven ability to plan, organize, and lead staff activities effectively.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with internal and external stakeholders.

  • WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification required.

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Physical ability to perform required duties in a grain elevator environment, including good eyesight and color perception.

  • U.S. role classification: Non‑Exempt.
