Schedule : Monday - Friday (possible work on Saturday and evenings)

Hours :  35 hrs / week

Wage : $24.97 / hour - $28.62 / hour (starting $24.97)

Opportunity

The Activity Worker isresponsible for working collaboratively as a member of a team to support childparticipants in the School’s Out Camp Connect Program. This position involvesassisting in the development, delivery, and evaluation of the program, whichaims to create an accessible intercultural camp experience in Delta, BC forchildren ages 6-12. Our camps integrate cross-cultural awareness, environmentalresponsibility, and personal health and well-being with a full-family approach.We prioritize registrations for Indigenous and Newcomer children, followed byother high-risk, non-Indigenous and Newcomer children within the schooldistrict, and other non-Indigenous and Newcomer children with barriers toaccessing summer camps.

The Activity Worker willwork under the guidance of the Camp Coordinator to ensure successfulimplementation of the program. The ideal candidate for this role will bepassionate about providing meaningful, engaging, culturally responsiveactivities for children, be highly organized, and able to develop relationshipswith families, staff members, and service delivery partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive program offering a wide range of activities, including arts, sports, science, and outdoor adventures.
  • Maintains related records and statistics for input to the quarterly and annual reports.
  • Coordinate camp activities from the direction of Coordinator and ensure the main themes of program are met.
  • Integrate culturally inclusive curricula that promote understanding and appreciation of different cultures, including weekly Indigenous cultural components.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment in which children can interact and play. Observe and remove potential hazards.
  • Promote health and wellness through daily physical activities, mindfulness practices, and nutritional education.
  • Support social and emotional learning to help children develop self-awareness, self-regulation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Attend program planning / review meetings, monthly team meetings, all staff meetings, and special meetings as required.
  • Maintains accurate statistics for reporting purposes.
  • Adhere to the Policies and Procedures of the department and the Policies, Procedures and Practices of the Society.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager and / or Director or another assigned supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Certificate in related human / social field.
  • Six months related experience; or and equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multicultural team setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong computer literacy skills (including MS Windows, MS Word, MS Works, MS Excel and the internet).
  • Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate.
  • Ability to speak one of the languages of the refugee client population will be considered an asset (Arabic, Somali, Swahili, Spanish, Tigrinya, Dari, Pashto, etc).
  • Experience working with diverse and multi-lingual groups.
  • Knowledge of etiquette, sportsmanship, and rules of various common sports.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to conduct and facilitate group sessions.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions, work independently and interdependently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrates effective conflict resolution / problem solving skills.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
  • A CriminalRecord Check is a requirement of employment.
