What you’ll do

  • Plan and organize the provision of services for the Gender Health Program in consultation with the Program Manager and Program Director. Participate in activities related to coordinating the team as required for the program’s delivery.
  • Coordinate and deliver Mental Health and Readiness Assessments for gender healthcare, which includes clinical interviews, questionnaire administration, collateral interviews and reviews of documentation, review of medical transition, capacity assessment and provision of other measures as appropriate. Document assessments, treatment plans, and outcomes and advise other members of the treatment team.
  • Provide therapeutic psychosocial intervention to children, adolescents, and caregivers, in an individual, parent, family or group context. Areas of clinical focus may include psychoeducation about gender diversity and transition, family adjustment, transition supports, crisis intervention, conflict resolution and managing co-occurring mental health concerns.
  • Advocate for the patient, family or caregiver for resources within the hospital and the community.
  • Function as a primary Psychology contact for treatment teams, individuals or persons serving the Pediatric Gender Health Program. Make recommendations for program planning and the revision of criteria and procedures for referrals, needs assessment and case documentation. Promote the services of the program, clinic or Psychology Department to the public, community and Professionals’ groups as requested by the Program Manager and Program Director. Conduct public education lectures and clinician training lectures regarding gender health.
  • Provide information and advice to colleagues, physicians and hospital personnel regarding psychological assessment, treatment modalities and patient care issues. Prepare and deliver in-service presentations to department and hospital staff. Represent the department at various meetings as designated.
  • Supervise and provide evaluations for Psychology Interns and other trainees and students as requested by the Gender Health program. Participate in training post-doctoral fellows as appropriate.
  • Maintain currency in the scientific literature relevant to Pediatric Gender Health and in the application of scientific evidence to clinical decision-making WPATH standards of care). May initiate or participate in outcome investigations and/or clinical research as appropria

What you bring:

  • Graduate in a Doctorate level program in Psychology.
  • Eligibility for registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia.
  • Training at the doctoral level in child clinical and/or developmental psychology, including course work, training and/or experience in diversity and intersectionality.
  • One year of recent related experience that includes completion of Mental Health and Readiness Assessments for children and youth.

You will have:

  • Understanding and application of the World Professional Association of Transgender Health standards of care guidelines for gender health care
  • Knowledge of current literature on gender diversity in childhood and adolescence.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in using electronic databases created via programs such as REDCap.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out duties in a timely fashion.
  • Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents – including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study – and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
