The IT Business Applications Manager provides essential leadership and technical oversight for the company’s software application ecosystem. Reporting to the Senior Manager of IT & Analytics, this role is responsible for driving the strategic application roadmap with a specific focus on the ERP system (QAD) and BI platforms (Cognos and Power BI). The Supervisor manages and helps with the daily activities of the Senior Programmer / Analyst and the Systems Analyst, ensuring that all business units receive innovative, efficient, and data‑driven solutions to meet corporate goals.
Core Responsibilities
- People Management : Responsible for the selection, training, work assignment, motivation, and performance review of the software application team, including the Senior Programmer / Analyst and Systems Analyst.
- Policy Oversight : Ensure all team members adhere to Tree Island and IT department policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Mentorship : Provide technical mentorship and professional development guidance to the software team to ensure high standards of code and system design.
Application Development & Operations
ERP Maintenance : Oversee and help with the continuous development and maintenance of the company’s ERP platform.Custom Software : Manage and help with the modification and upgrade of all custom applications, including but not limited to Shopfloor, QA, and Warehousing and inventory scanning systems.Programming Excellence : Design and develop programs within ERP and other systems using Progress OpenEdge language.System Integrity : Identify and correct software defects (bugs) promptly and perform Progress database administration duties, including software installations and upgrades.Business Intelligence & Reporting
BI Strategy : Help with the development and maintenance of the BI platforms (Cognos BI and Power BI), including the design of reports, dashboards, and the analysis tools.Data Warehousing : Ensure the accuracy and continued development of data warehouse content using ETL (DataStage) and DBMS (IBM DB2) tools.Executive Collaboration : Work directly with the Executive leadership team and finance department to determine and deliver confidential reporting requirements regarding consolidated financial information.Future Exploration
Cloud-Based Deployed Applications : Exploration of cloud-based application development and deployment to come up with new use cases to help achieve superior and centralized data management capabilities across all Canadian and U.S. operating facilities.Mobile-First Workforce : Exploration of transitioning of some legacy shopfloor systems and QA tools into mobile environments with modern UI / UX to increase user adoption and operational speed across all facilities.General Administration
Other Duties : Perform other duties as assigned to support the evolving needs of the Information Technology department.Professional Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or a related field supported with a business background.5–10 years of ERP experience (preferably QAD) and 5–10 years of experience creating dashboards with BI tools (IBM Cognos knowledge preferred).Expert knowledge of Progress Application Development Environment (Version 11.3 and OE) and relational databases.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex analytical results to stakeholders.Strong understanding of financial and management accounting principles and solid business acumen.Our Philosophy
