WHAT'S THE JOB?
The Second Cook contributes to the overall success of the Culinary team. Involved in preparing the dinner menu, the Second Cook is responsible for all starch and vegetable items required for the menu. The Second Cook will work with the First Cook to ensure that all product meets quality standards as set out by Culinary leadership.
The position involves a remote work lifestyle in a camp setting with the following amenities :
- All meals and accommodations are provided
- Travel is provided to and from the site locations from designated locations in the Thunder Bay, Dryden and surrounding area
- Private room with cable television
- Access to Wi-Fi
- Access to laundry facilities and detergents
- Access to a gym and common areas
Working Conditions :
Remote camp environment with extended periods away from home (4 weeks on / 2 weeks off)Extreme weather conditions are common in NunavutExtended periods of darkness / no sunshine this time of yearKey responsibilities include :
Meet daily with the First Cook to discuss menu preparation and production strategyAssist the First Cook in the preparation of all menu items as neededFollow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specificationsCan be responsible for preparing and serving hot breakfastReplenish desserts and condiment stations as requiredAssist in the cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchen and serving areasCan be responsible for assisting with bakingPractice correct food handling guidelines and storage proceduresQualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Large-scale cooking in camp settings, banquet halls and / or hotels is a strong assetCurrent Food Safe certification is requiredAbility to commit to a 4 week on / 2 week off rotationA team-player who is committed to providing client satisfactionMust have valid government issued photo ID for travel to siteAbility to handle the following physical demands :Lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs
Climb ladders or stairsStand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended periods of timePerform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both handsPerform work with arms at full lengthWork with arms above shoulder heightAdditional Information

2nd Cooks work on a rotational schedule of 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off. Site location is in a remote camp setting in Nunavut. You may be required to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. Wages are paid on an hourly basis with a starting rate of $19.00 / hour
