Job Summary
Join our collegial-spirited team at Burnaby Hospital as we build for the future of health care in Burnaby. The Burnaby Hospital Redevelopment Project is a multi-phase project that will transform the hospital into a modernized medical and surgical health care campus. Phase one is slated to open in spring 2025 and phase two in 2030. Highlights of the two-phase redevelopment project include :
- Expanded Emergency Department with additional treatment spaces
- New health care pavilion with 83 beds to support maternity, neonatal intensive care, medicine and mental health patients
- New operating rooms, procedure rooms and recovery spaces
- New acute care tower with 160 beds
- New medical imaging department
- New integrated BC Cancer Centre

Responsibilities
Provides physiotherapy assessment of the patient's physical status, functional abilities, needs and goals by reviewing records, interviewing the patient, and collaborating with the health care team.Analyzes needs to establish physiotherapy diagnosis and prognosis and develops an evidence-based, outcome-focused intervention plan; sets short- and long-term goals aligned with patient needs.Implements interventions according to treatment guidelines and educates patients and caregivers on self-management and prevention.Participates in interprofessional care planning, updating the care plan and coordinating transfers, discharges and related care needs.Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions through ongoing assessment, documents progress, and adjusts plans to achieve optimal function.Facilitates referrals to related physiotherapy services and community programs as appropriate.Collaborates with patients and families in developing and updating the care plan; fosters a therapeutic relationship emphasizing patient rights, privacy, dignity and autonomy.Maintains patient records in approved formats and compiles workload statistics and reports when requested.Delegates components of treatment to rehabilitation assistants with clear direction and documentation of function transfer.Acts as a resource to colleagues and students; provides in-service education and participates in team meetings and quality / safety initiatives.Participates in research, special projects and committees related to physiotherapy and interprofessional practice.Performs other related duties as assigned.Qualifications
Education and Experience
Current full registration with the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia (CPTBC).
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of physiotherapy theory and practice within a patient- and family-centered model of care.Knowledge of CPTBC standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners.Knowledge of physiotherapy standardized tests, measures, equipment and techniques.Broad knowledge of other health care professions and their roles in patient care.Effective communication skills with patients, caregivers and interprofessional team members, both verbally and in writing.Ability to teach and provide effective consultation to patients, caregivers, rehabilitation assistants and other health care professionals.Ability to work independently and collaboratively; manage workload priorities and adapt to unexpected events.Basic knowledge of research processes and methodology.Ability to operate related equipment and software applications.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.About Fraser Health
