Position Overview We have a full-time opportunity available within our Parks Department for an Equipment Operator 2 specializing in sports field maintenance. This position involves the safe and efficient operation, servicing, and minor maintenance of complex and / or heavy / medium-sized equipment used specifically for sports field upkeep. The incumbent will operate and maintain various types of equipment, including mowers and heavy-duty tractors. The successful applicant will also be required to use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking maintenance activities and reports. Oral, written, and digital (email and SMS) assignments are received from a superior who evaluates work performance in terms of safe and efficient equipment operational services rendered.

The successful applicant will possess :

  • Considerable knowledge and experience with reel and bed-knife mowers, rotary mowers, including maintenance, back lapping, and sharpening blades.
  • Skill in operating heavy-duty tractors with front-end loader attachments.
  • Experience in mowing sports fields and maintaining baseball diamonds.
  • Experience in snow removal within parking lots using tractors and front-end loaders.
  • Ability to apply fertilizers and lime to sports fields and perform related maintenance tasks.
  • Skill in hooking up and operating 3-point hitch equipment for mowers, trailers, blowers, overseeders, and aerators.
  • Understanding of the basics of sports field maintenance and repairs.
  • Experience leading and directing crews engaged in sports field maintenance activities.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for tracking and reporting maintenance activities and the ability to carry out oral and written instructions
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, and rules of safe and efficient operation of medium-sized equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of the methods and practices used in servicing and maintaining equipment and the associated tools required for this work.
  • Ability to perform other related work such as labouring as needed.

Qualifications Completion of the 12th grade and considerable related equipment operation experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, as well as provision of a Driver’s Abstract that reflects a safe and responsible driving record is required.
