Job Title

Casual Registered Nurse (RN In-Charge)

Reports To

Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) and Director of Care (DOC)

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN In-Charge) is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care clinical leadership and supervision of the care team during assigned shifts. The RN ensures resident care is delivered in accordance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act (FLTCA) professional standards of practice organizational policies and evidence-based practice.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Resident Safety

• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and develop implement and evaluate individualized plans of care

• Administer medications and treatments safely and in accordance with policies and legislation

• Monitor resident conditions and respond promptly to changes in health status

• Initiate appropriate interventions including emergency response when required

• Complete accurate and timely documentation in PCC / EMR

• Ensure timely physician notification and follow-up of abnormal findings

Leadership & Supervision

• Act as RN In-Charge of the unit during assigned shifts

• Supervise and provide guidance to RPNs PSWs and unregulated care providers

• Assign duties appropriately based on scope of practice and resident needs

• Support staff with clinical decision-making and problem solving

• Address minor performance concerns in real time and escalate issues to ADOC/DOC as required

Medication & Treatment Management

• Ensure safe medication practices including narcotic counts documentation and audits

• Monitor for medication effectiveness and adverse effects

• Follow policies for controlled substances high-risk medications and PRN effectiveness

• Ensure proper storage handling and disposal of medications

Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC)

• Adhere to IPAC best practices and outbreak protocols

• Ensure staff follow hand hygiene PPE and isolation precautions

• Participate in surveillance and reporting as required

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete all documentation accurately objectively and within required timelines

• Complete incident reports critical incident reports (CIRs) and internal documentation as required

• Ensure care delivery aligns with regulatory standards and Ministry requirements

• Participate in audits quality improvement initiatives and inspections

Communication & Collaboration

• Communicate effectively with residents families physicians and interdisciplinary team

• Provide education and support to residents and families

• Escalate concerns appropriately to ADOC/DOC

• Participate in care conferences as needed

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)

• Current CPR (Health Care Provider level)

• Experience in Long-Term Care preferred

• Strong clinical judgment and leadership skills

• Excellent communication and documentation skills

• Sound knowledge of FLTCA LTC regulations and best practice guidelines

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Employment Status

Casual / On-Call
Shifts: Days / Evenings / Nights / Weekends as needed

Compensation:

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
