To produce such a document involves extensive interaction and coordination between the Controls Designer, project manager, mechanical contractor, and mechanical engineer.

The length of time to produce such a document can vary from a couple of days to several weeks depending on the size and complexity of a project.

On an average project, a designer would spend about 40% of their time performing design.

Programming

The programming phase of a project consists of building software for the operation of the mechanical equipment that we have we have decided to control in the design phase.

The programming section requires : Creation of I / OCreation of GCLCreation of controllersCreation of trend logs / alarmsCreation of system displays

The sequence of operations that was created in the design portion is used as the guideline for the programming portion of the project.

On an average project, a designer would spend about 20% of their time programming.

Commissioning

The commissioning phase of the project requires the applicant to be on site working with our electrical installers to provide full system tests of the I / O points and programming to ensure the control system that has been built meets the design intent of the mechanical engineer.

This first involves testing, calibrating and documenting the results of individual input sensors points and output control points on live mechanical systems to ensure individual points will function.

The second part is testing the programming sequences on the live equipment to ensure it works as designed. If programming does not perform as expected, changes will be made at this point in time and re-testing ensues.

The final part of commissioning is performing loop tuning. This is performed to make sure set points for rooms and mechanical equipment are within specifications and mechanical equipment is not over cycled.

Functional end to endsSequence / Programming testingLoop tuning
