AEP Cambridge North is a Canadian owned and operated metal manufacturing company, specializing in prototyping and custom projects. At AEP Cambridge North we use the latest in cutting edge technology to provide clients with machining, fabricating, welding and design support. In business since 1991, we run medium to small production projects in our air‑conditioned facility that is conveniently located in Cambridge.
Position Summary :
The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and preparing CNC machines for production runs. This role involves configuring the machine, selecting and installing tools, and ensuring the machine operates efficiently to produce parts that meet precise specifications. A deep understanding of 5‑axis machining, technical drawings, and CNC programming is essential.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Interpret and analyze engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
- Set up Lathe machines by selecting and installing appropriate tools, fixtures, and attachments.
- Load raw materials into the machine, ensuring proper alignment and secure positioning.
- Input and modify CNC programs to match specific job requirements.
- Operate 5‑axis CNC machines to perform complex tasks such as milling, drilling, and cutting from multiple angles and planes.
- Monitor machine operations to ensure precision and accuracy, making real‑time adjustments as needed.
- Conduct regular inspections and quality checks on finished products using precision measuring instruments.
- Perform routine maintenance on 5‑axis CNC machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting components.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or operational issues that arise during machine set‑up or production.
- Collaborate with maintenance technicians for more complex repairs and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Ensure all produced parts meet strict quality standards and specifications.
- Document and report any defects or deviations from specifications, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of machine settings, production output, and maintenance activities.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in CNC machining or a related field preferred.Minimum 2‑3 years of experience in setting up and operating 5‑axis CNC machines.Required Skills & Expertise :
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and CNC programs.In‑depth knowledge of 5‑axis CNC machine operations, including tool selection, machine calibration, and program input.Understands complex datum structures, including those for large weldments.Advanced work‑holding for large components.Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex mechanical and operational issues.Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality work.Ability to lift and move heavy materials and tools (up to 50 lbs).Measuring tools and instruments, such as micrometers, verniers, calipers, height gauges or other specialized measuring instruments.5‑Axis CNC machines.What We Offer – Your Benefits Package
