Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation and Events, the Summer Student, Playground Coordinator position is responsible for :
- Maintain and adhere to a complete set of policies, procedures and records on playground activities, special events and leadership training.
- Oversee and coordinate all playground activities, special events and trips with the assistance from the Creative Arts and Sports Leaders and Playground Leaders.
- To ensure compliance with policies and procedures by maintaining daily and / or weekly attendance, operations, first aid and equipment safety records.
- Coordinate and / or delegate registration for special events and trips with programmers, this includes the organization and collection of revenues and consent forms where applicable.
- Provide leadership and direction to all playground staff by instituting a staff training program, providing written evaluation of programs and staff at the end of the season.
- Oversee, coordinate, and assist the Supervisor, Recreation and Events with all purchases of playground program and special events supplies as mandated by the Department of Planning, Development & Recreation.
- Coordinate and authorize regular press releases to the media to promote the program and / or any special activities.
- Attend parks on a regular basis to check-in on program operations.
- Maintain records of the number of participants involved in each special event.
- To maintain an annual directory. This directory should contain the locations of all playground staff, copies of park attendance records, equipment checks, press releases, purchase receipts, correspondence, promotional posters, accident reports, and inventory.
- Respond to suggestions and complaints from the public.
- Respond to complaints and suggestions from Playground Leaders by coordinating and holding weekly informational sessions with staff.
- Responsible for preparing a special needs information kit for playground staff and volunteers.
- To develop a healthy integrated, active, and creative program for all children. Implement action plans for special needs children and their care givers and provide individual assessments.
- To be a representative of the City of Cornwall and always maintain outstanding public relations skills and professional image.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications :
Full-time day student at a recognized secondary or post-secondary institution and be returning to full time attendance the fall of 2026.Enrolled in a College or University Program related to Education, Fine Arts, Social Sciences, or Recreation etc.Must have 2 years of experience in Summer Playground Program or similar program.The candidate will require at least 1 years’ experience working in Summer Playground Office.Current Emergency First Aid Certificate (must obtain Emergency First Aid before the first day of employment).Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suites and Database programs.Once hired the applicant must successfully complete the City of Cornwall’s Playground Leader Training Program; this training program will be made available to all successful applicants at the beginning of the program.Must have a valid Class G2 or G Driver’s License, and ability to travel to various City locations in a timely and efficient manner.Asset Qualifications :
