What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve :
- A 5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM)
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore)
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do :
Reporting to the Quality Director, the Quality Assurance & Control Coordinator ensures site quality control through inspections, compliance, and audits; while managing non-conformities and IMS documentation. You will collaborate notably with the construction team to oversee material compliance, drive corrective actions, and support continuous improvement.
Responsibilities :
Quality Management & Compliance
Establish and maintain on-site Quality Control systems and proceduresCoordinate inspections, tests, and compliance with ITPs and WMS; ensure traceability and accuracy of resultsMonitor non-conformities, validate corrective actions, and supervise external lab testsImplement preventive measures and control procedures to reduce quality risks before executionVerify that all inspection breakpoints are properly lifted before proceeding with subsequent work stagesEnsure preventive measures are applied systematically to avoid recurrence of non-conformities and maintain compliance with project standardsAudits & IMS
Plan and coordinate internal and subcontractor audits; ensure timely reporting and closure of findingsMaintain the IMS schedule and organize process inductions; develop Toolbox Talks, best practices, and quick tipsNCR / CA & ETF
Oversee NCR / CA processes in ACONEX; ensure the completeness and accuracy of registers and dashboardsCoordinate the defining of the list of ETFs with the Execution team while providing guidance and methodologyProvide training and support for NCR / CA and ETF processes; monitor analysis and follow up on progressMaterial & Equipment
Review Material Approval Requests (MAR) and ensure complianceVerify calibration and readiness of measuring equipment for site, survey, and lab operationsReporting & Coordination
Liaise with QHSE teams; ensure Quality information is available on siteIssue Quality reports, define best practices, and communicate quality alerts across the organizationSuspend the execution of the work immediately if the safety of persons or the environment is endangered, or if a critical factor is identified that could affect the final quality of the workYour skills :
A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field8-12 years of experience in Quality Control on major projectsIn-depth knowledge of ISO standards and QHSE regulations applicable to large construction projectsHeightened ability to conduct inspections, tests, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standardsCapacity to monitor the implementation of QHSE procedures.Proficiency in audits, scheduling, reporting, and closure of findings
