Unit Summary

Note : Posted wage rates are as of April, 2022. HHS is currently in negotiations to renew our Collective Agreement with OPSEU Local 273.

Any increases to wage rates that may come as a result of negotiations, will be retroactively applied once negotiations are completed, and a new agreement has been finalized.

The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) is a collaborative program funded and operated jointly by Hamilton Health Sciences and St.

Joseph's Hospital. The Program is committed to change and innovation, through education, service and research, to bring the highest quality science into healthcare for the benefit of the community, and to participate in the clinical application and interpretation of the science.

Position Summary

Under supervision and direction the Medical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the proper collection of appropriate specimens for laboratory testing on inpatients and outpatients.

The Lab Assistant performs a variety of laboratory tasks, which require learned manual skills rather than a technological training, to assist the trained technologists in various sections within the Department of Laboratory Medicine.

Qualifications

1. Grade 12 education or recognized equivalent

2. OSMT Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate

3. Experience in Core Laboratory

4. Experience in Laboratory Reference Centre

5. Experience and demonstrated proficiency in blood collection and collection of other body fluids as necessary

6. Data entry and order entry skills in Meditech

7. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
