The Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full-time Educational Assistant in High School Specialized Education Programs.
Qualifications
Educational Assistant Certificate or DiplomaAbility to understand / support Social, LA, Math and Sciences Grades 7-12 including 30-1 levelsRequirements
Ability to understand and support students academically in Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts; support student growth in cognition, communication, physical and social developmentSupport and / or implement teacher‑directed programmingWork collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and other members of the multi‑disciplinary teamImplement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learningCommunicate effectively with students using age‑appropriate positive reinforcements and / or school‑specific behaviour strategiesObserve student behaviour with a focus on achieving positive behavioural / educational outcomes and mitigate / prevent negative onesProvide a high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomesProvide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programsSuccessfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan (PBP), if requiredManage student behaviour using strategies learned through NVCI certification (specific requirement only)Ability to work with students with Autism or complex medical needsProvide school‑directed indoor and outdoor student supervisionEmployee is expected to work with behaviours related / associated with conduct, obsessive / compulsive, trauma and stress‑related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and / or eating disorders, etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional / behavioural, learning and speech & language‑related disabilities may be encountered.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e‑mail, Internet and MS Office.
