Technical Specialist – Combat Systems/C4ISR

Position Summary
This role is hybrid in Mill Bay, BC. As part of the AJISS Coastal Support team, the Technical Specialist – C4ISR will support the Royal Canadian Navy Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPV) and Joint Support Ship (JSS) class vessels under the AOPS & JSS In‑Service Support contract.
The Technical Specialist is accountable to the Resource Manager – Coastal Support but responsive to the Coastal Engineering Services Lead. They support Service Delivery and Engineering teams with corrective maintenance, engineering changes, certification management and planned maintenance changes related to C4ISR.
Technical Specialist provides technical services and advice for system and equipment repair, operations and maintenance within area of expertise, covering: Command & Control (Command Management, Navigation Systems), Communications (Internal & External, SATCOM, Radios), Computers (NavIS, networks), Combat Systems (Surveillance, Reconnaissance, Weapons).
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Conduct investigations on board the ship or within the Technical Document Package (TDP)
- Liaise with OEMs, service providers and ship staff to support investigation and resolution of defects
- Develop Work Instructions and Statements of Work (SOW) to support defect resolution
- Identify inadequacies within the TDP and propose improvements/corrections
- Support the Service Delivery team with management of Service Providers working on board the ship
- Provide technical advice to ensure correct operation or maintenance of C4ISR systems
- Develop good working relationships within Thales and customer organization for coordination and rapid issue resolution
- Support LCMM & Supportability teams with identification/assessment of alternate parts
- Support LCMM & Supportability teams with obsolescence assessment
- Assist LCMM & Engineering team with development and implementation of Engineering Changes, creation of Deviations & Waivers, or surveys on board the ship
Minimum Qualifications
- Electronics or Networking Engineering Technician Diploma with at least 5 years of experience in the last 10 years in a high‑technology marine technical environment, including instruction, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of VHF/UHF/HF communications, satellite systems, computer networks, telecom, radar, electronic warfare, navigation, weapons systems
- OR Minimum of Military QL5 Electronics or Networking Technician certification in an approved Military Trade
- Strong working knowledge of maintenance, operation, design and/or troubleshooting of a wide range of C4ISR systems
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Team player
- Fluent in English
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience within the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard
- Familiarity with certification requirements: Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, DND regulations
Physical Demands
- Mix of office work, dockyard work, and onboard naval ships
- Will be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces involving bending and twisting
- Willing to work aloft and in confined spaces on board ships (training provided)
Special Position Requirements
- Schedule: 40 hours per week
- Work Location: Hybrid. Employee will work from Esquimalt dockyard almost 100% of the time when ship is alongside, and from home or Thales office (1800 Trowsse Rd., Mill Bay, BC) when no ships are alongside.
- Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel may be required in support of ships or AJISS enterprise

Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range: CAD 76,208.54 – 128,924.64 annually.
