Duties

CORCAN, as part of the Correctional Service of Canada, is responsible for the Employment and Employability Program for offenders while incarcerated in federal penitentiaries, and after they are released into the community. The Employment Coordinator position provides services and interventions to offenders, including developing partnerships with community employers and organizations and providing direct support, services and program interventions to assist them with finding employment in the community.

Work environment

The incumbent works in a correctional institution (multiple security levels) or community location providing services and interventions to offenders who are under the supervision of the Correctional Service of Canada. All incumbents must be willing to work on a regular basis within a federal correctional environment, including contact with offenders. Incumbents also have regular contact with other areas of CSC and the government, as well as stakeholder groups and members of the public.

EDUCATION

A secondary school diploma, OR an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience.

EXPERIENCE

Experience in intervening with and / or supporting individuals who are working on changing their behaviour.

    EDUCATION

    Graduation with a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Social Sciences or any other area relevant to the position.

    EXPERIENCE

    Experience working in a correctional environment (institution or community-based).

    Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with and / or providing services to Indigenous Peoples.

    Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with and / or providing services to People of Ethno-cultural background.

    Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with and / or providing services to people with mental health needs.

    Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with and / or providing services to women.

    Experience developing partnerships with community organizations.

    Experience providing employment services and / or career counselling.

    Experience facilitating skills based programs.

    Experience working for a Federal Government department.

    Reliability Status security clearance - Possession of a valid unrestricted driver's licence that conforms to provincial or territorial requirement may be applicable to some positions.
