We are currently looking for a Senior DBA MS SQL to join one of our major financial clients in Montreal.
Context and Objectives
The IT infrastructure division is responsible for supporting a wide range of IT services. The mission is to provide business divisions with secure and reliable infrastructure, including hosting business applications, offering cloud solutions, and managing connectivity and digital workplace services, while also contributing to the organization\'s digital transformation.
The Database Administration (DBA) department provides hosting services and expertise for major database technologies, including MS SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, PostgreSQL, and Big Data solutions. The DBA team operates in multiple regions, maintaining high service levels in critical environments across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and supporting business partners with their database-related needs. In this context, we are looking for a MS SQL Server Database Administrator to join the team.
The role involves supporting the existing infrastructure, assisting clients with database-related projects, and contributing to the development of automation tools and APIs.
Day-to-day Responsibilities
- Install, configure, manage, and maintain MS SQL Server databases
- Ensure database health, high availability, performance tuning, optimization, operational control, and inventory management
- Work closely with developers and application support teams to provide technical assistance
- Participate in on-call rotations, handling alerts and escalations during business and off-hours, including weekends and holidays
- Set up and maintain database backup and recovery procedures (AlwaysOn, Backup / Restore, Log Shipping)
- Provide and maintain technical documentation
- Support and implement database changes while ensuring change control and quality assurance adherence
- Perform capacity and growth planning
- Contribute to team strategy, tool development, and process improvement initiatives
Profile
Experience Required :
5+ years of hands-on experience administering MS SQL Server databasesStrong knowledge of HA / DR, performance tuning, and production operationsExperience with automation and scripting (PowerShell required)Technical Expertise :
Strong experience administering MS SQL Server (2016–2022) in enterprise environmentsExperience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions : AlwaysOn Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication, MirroringKnowledge of Oracle, Sybase, or PostgreSQL environments is an assetProficiency in Windows Server and Linux environmentsExperience with performance tuning, query optimization (execution plans, indexing strategies), and troubleshootingFamiliarity with underlying storage and networking components related to database infrastructure (SAN, EMC, RAID, etc.)Development & Automation : Experience building automation and orchestration scripts for operational tasksFamiliarity with CI / CD, version control (Git), and DevOps-oriented database processesExperience creating or using API-driven automation and monitoring toolsAdditional Skills (Nice to Have)
