Established in 1993, SCIREQ and its subsidiary emka TECHNOLOGIES are world leaders in precision laboratory instruments for preclinical research. We are seeking a results-driven financial controller with strong organizational skills and experience with multi-ERP systems to join our Finance and Accounting Department.
Based at our head office in Montreal, reporting to the Director of Finance and Accounting, and collaborating with our accounting technicians in Canada, France, and the US, the Controller will ensure accurate recording of financial transactions, support informed decision-making, and drive efficiencies across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have an education as a CPA or related diploma, with a keen interest in working in a small business environment focused on cutting-edge technology.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversee and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions (receivables, payables, payroll, etc.)
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries
- Manage cash flows between different business units
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and internal reports
Strategic & Operational Support
- Lead the preparation and review of budgets and forecasts
- Analyze financial performance and provide insights to management
- Support operational teams with financial analysis
- Identify opportunities for cost control and efficiency improvements
- Develop and maintain internal financial policies, procedures, and controls
- Assist in identifying and mitigating financial and operational risks
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards
- Provide financial reporting to the executive team and board as needed
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual financial statements
- Promote a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement within finance
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Odoo, NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics) – required
- Strong understanding of IFRS for small business and financial statement preparation
- Ability to create and manage internal accounting policies and procedures
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Fluency in French, both written and spoken
- Experience with French and US accounting standards is a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in a small business or R&D/manufacturing environment is an asset
