The Opportunity

The Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival is one of the flagship programs of Banff Centre. As one of the world’s pre-eminent mountain festivals – and a co-founder of the International Alliance for Mountain Film — the Festival began 50 years ago in the small Rocky Mountain town of Banff, Alberta. What began as a one-day festival of climbing films has now blossomed into a nine-day event in Banff that explores and celebrates what Mountain Culture means to people around the world. Events include film screenings; film, book, and photography competitions; a filmmaking workshop; a mountain marketplace; and a year-round World Tour.

The Business Development Lead supports the strategy and execution of Mountain Culture objectives, primarily the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour and Banff on Demand programs. Working closely with the World Tour Manager, Festival Manager and the Director of Mountain Culture, this position develops increased and new business for Mountain Culture resulting in increased revenues.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to World Tour Manager, below are some key accountabilities :

Contacts, Communication and New Business

• Works proactively with World Tour Manager and Festival Manager on business strategy including annual Banff On Demand strategy.
• Identifies and researches new global markets and potential partners for the World Tour for both live and digital delivery
• Actively recruits new World Tour hosts in promising markets.
• Acts as main contact for new World Tour host onboarding and troubleshooting.
• In conjunction with Event Specialists, provides enhanced support for our existing tour hosts to improve their screenings.
• Assists with annual individual debriefs with hosts as requested.
• Leads and plans annual Tour Host webinars
• Creates tour host onboarding documents.
• Engages in extensive internal contact with staff of other departments concerning the Banff on Demand platform.
• Works with Event Specialists on Tour Host troubleshooting and facilitates communication with other Banff Centre departments, employing effective problem-solving methods in order to resolve issues and concerns.
• Develops and builds new business relationships for Banff on Demand platform.
• Works as World Tour and Banff on Demand liaison with Banff Centre marketing team.
• Ensures that World Tour and Banff on Demand programs operate within Banff Centre policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Attends and evaluates World Tour screenings as assigned.
• Offers Banff on Demand customer support as required.
• Leads online platform needs for international World Tour hosts.
