Your opportunity :

At U of T Mississauga, we are looking for a passtionate Network Administrator to join our Network Engineering team. Your primary duties include assisting on the day to day operations and monitoring of the campus network infrastructure, particularly wireless systems, providing on-site troubleshooting and diagnostics, creating documentation, conducting wireless surveys, and recommending and assisting with implementation of changes to network infrastructure.

You will be part of a highly motivated and dynamic team of network experts, supporting and maintaining the University of Toronto Mississauga campus network. You will take personal ownership of the wireless client experience on campus, and be an instrumental part supporting mission critical connectivity services.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Troubleshooting complex wired and wireless network connectivity issues, with particular focus on the wireless infrastructure.
  • Translating tier-1 and tier-2 feedback into actionable solutions.
  • Planning components of network infrastructure upgrade andevergreening projects.
  • Working with clients and technical experts to establish project and solution requirements.
  • Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides (network topology maps, standard operating procedures, checklists, etc).
  • Liaising with Facilities Management & Planning, Capital Projects, and contractors to provide wired / wireless designs and configuration input to renovation projects and new builds.
  • Collaborating on cost estimates, milestones, and other elements of network project planning.
  • Acting as a resource for client facing SMEs, as well as enterprise network support personnel, in support of campus network services.

Essential Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Four years experience providing IT support in a high-volume, client-centric, heterogeneous network environment
  • Two years experience supporting wired and 802.11 wireless infrastructure, including but not limited to network switches, wireless access points, antennae, and wireless controllers.
  • Two years troubleshooting 802.11 wireless issues with a range of network analysis tools, such as spectrum / vertical analyzer, site survey suites, wireless packet captures, and wireless protocol analyzer.
  • Demonstrated experience managing vendors, tier 3 escalation and manufacturer support tickets
  • Demonstrated experience and familiarity with principles of RF technology (channel planning, predictive and site surveys, etc.)
  • Strong troubleshooting of wireless issues across a range of endpoints, including MacOS, Windows, Android, iOS, and others.
  • Familiarity with layer 2 and 3 network protocols, including STP, IPv4, IPv6, OSPF, OSPFv3, BGP, MBGP, and others.
  • Strong knowledge of command line interface for network equipment.
  • Conversant with
  • NIX operating system and shell scripting (e.g. bash)for task automation.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to solve complex technical and logistical problems and the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical users.
  • Assets (Nonessential) :

  • Industry recognized wireless certifications (CWNA or vendor-specific equivalent)
  • Robust familiarity with ITSM principles and ITIL certification
  • Experience working with the ServiceNow platform
  • Familiarity with the university's environment, governance, and policies

    USW Pay Band 12 $79,874. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $102,147. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation / Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
