2025 / 26 Spring / Summer Term, Course-Based Contract Opportunities – Sapotaweyak Cree Nation Site, B.Arts / B.Ed Integrated Program – Faculty of Education
The Faculty of Education is seeking qualified, Contract Academic Staff to teach the following three credit hour courses in-person at the Sapotaweyak site during the Spring / Summer session of 2026. The instructors will be responsible for content delivery with expectations consistent with offerings of this course within the appropriate department. Qualified candidates must possess a valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate, strong teaching, communication and organizational skills, and demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness.
02.459 – Intro. to ELA Methods (MY) – April 6 – May 1 – 9 : 30 – 11 : 30 AM – Monday to Friday
This course is an introduction to the methods, materials, and rationale for English Language Arts in the Middle Years classroom. It covers the development of literacy, the influence of outside school experiences on language acquisition and development, the role of linguistics, the inter- relationship of the six areas of English Language Arts, organization and development of an effective educational experience for young adolescents and an overview of useful teaching practices and methodology ranging from direct instruction to whole language.
03.366 – Math Methods (MY) – April 6 – May 1 – 1 : 30 – 3 : 30 PM – Monday to Friday
This course deals with the philosophy, content, teaching and assessment methods of the Manitoba grades 5-8 mathematics curriculum. It will include a process-oriented and problem-solving approach. The development of critical thinking and the use of current technologies will be an integral part of the course.
02.342 – Foundations of Literacy – May 4 – May 29 – 1 : 30 – 3 : 30 PM – Monday to Friday
This course explores theories of English literacy development and teaching methods for students of varying ability across grade levels.
02.381 – Teaching of Indigenous Studies – June 1 – June 26 – 9 : 30 – 11 : 30 AM – Monday to Friday
This course will assist teachers in integrating Indigenous studies into various subject areas in the school curriculum and in teaching separate courses in Indigenous studies. It will assist teachers in developing abilities in working with non-Indigenous and Indigenous students, through considering modes of teaching and learning, as well as content. The course introduces teachers to questions about First Nations, Métis and Inuit culture, identity and pedagogies.
04.255 – Child Development – June 29 – July 24 – 9 : 30 – 11 : 30 AM – Monday to Friday
This course will examine current theories of physical, cognitive, social / cultural, moral / spiritual, and aesthetic development of children, in addition to theories of learning, and will focus on the application of those theories to classroom practice.
04.451 – Couns. Skills / Mental Health – June 29 – July 24 – 1 : 30 – 3 : 30 PM – Monday to Friday
This course takes a seminar approach to provide basic counselling skills to support positive communication and student flourishing. Mental health promotion and wellness strategies for school mental health are also provided.
Qualifications : Applicants should hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in an area related to the topic of instruction. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential / traditional equivalency to the Master’s degree and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee at the address below on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.
Salary : $7857 per 3 credit hour course
