Peer Outreach Worker

POSITION TYPE TERM, FULL-TIME, 35 HOURS/WEEK

The Opportunities

We have a full-time term position available for a Peer Outreach Worker to work within CMHA’s Housing Services. This term will end March 31, 2026. Our housing program includes all three levels of Housing First: Intensive Case Management, Rapid Rehousing, and Assertive Community Treatment.

The Positions

Collaborating with participants and the housing team, the peer outreach worker employs Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Psychosocial Rehabilitation models to support individuals experiencing mental illness, addictions, and homelessness to choose, get, and keep housing of their choice in the community. The worker conducts outreach, builds relationships, provides emotional support, connects individuals to resources, teaches life skills, aids in recovery plans, and contributes to there habilitation process by acting as a liaison between participant and environment. The Qualifications

Required

• High school graduation with preference for a diploma, certificate, or coursework in social work, education or psychology.
• One year experience in a community-based social service setting (mental health, addiction, housing).
• Willing to share personal lived experience of recovery with homelessness, mental health, and/or addiction issues.
• Peer Support Certification or a willingness to pursue certification.
• Knowledge of poverty, homelessness, mental health, addictions, and related systems and community services.
• Engagement and communication skills.
• Knowledge of issues related to poverty, homelessness, mental health, addictions, and related systems and community services.
• Knowledge of Indigenous experiences of trauma and colonization and of cultural healing practices and resources.
• Provided criminal record check with vulnerable sector search and both an adult and child abuse registry check, with results deemed satisfactory to the CMHA.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Proven history of dependable performance and conduct.

Preferred

• Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable, Manitoba registered vehicle.
• Empathy, understanding, and peer support skills.
• Skills in assisting, communicating, problem-solving, advocacy, and time management.
• Demonstrated competence in cultural safety and works effectively with individuals with various cultural backgrounds.
