What is the Opportunity?

The EHS Advisor will actively promote a health, safety, and environmental culture across all levels of employees in accordance with Aecon's Health, Safety and Environmental Manual. The position focuses on the Renewables Projects Construction team.

Responsibilities

Drive an inclusive culture and promote equity and belonging.

Conduct employee health and safety orientation and site‑specific safety orientation for workers, owners, and clients.

Train employees in fall protection, confined space entry, traffic protection, traffic control, WHMIS, respiratory protection, emergency response.

Coordinate training such as WHMIS, First Aid, Forklift, Propane, etc.

Conduct workplace inspections, audits and behavioural observations.

Develop workplace plans—emergency evacuations, fire emergency, traffic controls, fall protection.

Distribute safety material, supplies and equipment as needed.

Present safety to clients and promote Aecon safety systems.

Participate as a guest of the Joint Health and Safety Committees.

Analyze accident trends and conduct studies.

Inspect project facilities, recommend corrective actions, and coordinate environmental issues.

Assist with workers compensation claims and associated activities.

Develop return‑to‑work and modified work programs.

Investigate accidents / incidents and mediate health and safety issues.

Prepare and assist with internal and external safety audits.

Qualifications

Previous experience in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role.

Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and construction regulations.

Experience in Aerial Hydro and Telecommunications is an asset.

Knowledge of WHMIS, Asbestos in Construction, Designated Substances, and Smoking in the Workplace.

Must hold an NCSO designation.

Comfortable travelling to various job sites from Peterborough to Ottawa.

Ability to work with limited supervision and to be proactive.

Valid G driver’s license.
