This well established law firm with locations in western Canada is seeking a Legal Assistant or Paralegal for a full time opportunity with their Winnipeg practice.

In this multi-faceted firm you will be supporting counsel with the following:

• Manage e-documents and files
• Perform word processing (MS Word and other legal software), filing and faxing
• Oversee legal research and investigative tasks, including obtaining information or documents from outside parties, as directed
• Organize documents for photo copier and scanner
• Uphold computer database input and retrieval
• Draft communications and memorandum
• Oversee matter management and record keeping
• Check through and retrieve electronic documents from a variety of court and agency web sites
• Store documents and assemble data as directed by lawyers
• Make sure copied documents are factual compared to originals

Job Requirements:

• 2+ years of relevant experience
• Solid understanding of Civil Litigation
• Prepare/draft and file all court documents such as pleadings, motions, affidavits and subpoenas
• Experience drafting trusts, wills, contracts and real estate leases; and closing documents
• Communicate with opposing counsel
• Communicate with clients for scheduling of meetings and gathering of documents
• Organize and track files for important transactions or case documents, including pleadings and discovery documents; creating and maintaining a case-management database
• Experience assisting lawyers in preparing for transactional closings, depositions, hearings, trials and conferences; completing many administrative tasks, including, working on individual cases or transactions
• Be able to work on-site in Winnipeg
