Reporting to the Director of Rural Acute Care in Southeast Central Zone, the Acute Care Manager provides leadership and operational direction to the Acute Care Inpatient Unit and Emergency Department at the Drumheller Health Centre. Drumheller Health Centre’s full suite of healthcare services provides a range of care for a wide variety of medical concerns and includes a 24 / 7 Emergency department. Drummheller Health Centre features 33 acute care, 4 restorative care, and 8 long‑term care beds and offers general medicine, surgical, maternity, and palliative care. Teams participate in interdisciplinary rounds, fostering effective collaboration and a holistic approach to patient care. The team is highly collaborative, flexible, and often described as “like family.” With such a small team, members experience various departments and specialties and witness a patient’s healthcare journey from beginning to end. Key Responsibilities

The Rural Acute Manager is responsible for providing staff and programme leadership, overseeing clinical operations in acute care and the Emergency Department at Drumheller Health Centre. The role involves informing and supporting the implementation of local, zonal, and provincial initiatives. Key areas include effective deployment of human resources (scheduling, rotations, skill mix), creating a safe, healthy, inclusive workplace, and supporting learning, coaching, mentoring, orientation, and ongoing staff training and development. The manager also ensures the appropriate allocation of fiscal and capital resources, understands and reports on the operating budget per AHS policies, and fosters a culture of continuous quality improvement to deliver safe, high‑quality, consistent patient- and family‑centred care.

Required Qualifications

• A post‑secondary degree in a health profession, health administration, leadership or a comparable degree.
• Registration with an Alberta Regulated Health Profession, where appropriate.
• A demonstrated clear pattern of professional development (e.g., continuing education courses).
