Your Opportunity:

As the Supervisor, Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR), you will play a critical leadership role in supporting safe, high-quality patient care at the University of Alberta Hospital. Reporting to site leadership, you will oversee the daily operations of a fast-paced MDR department that directly supports Surgical Services and other clinical programs. This is an opportunity to lead a skilled team in a highly specialized environment where quality, safety, and compliance are paramount. You will contribute to operational excellence by advancing best practices in sterile processing, strengthening quality assurance processes, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Working closely with interdisciplinary partners including Operating Room leadership, Infection Prevention & Control, and Clinical Engineering, you will influence service delivery across multiple patient care areas. Your leadership will support workforce development, accreditation readiness, and adherence to Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards and AHS policies. Description:

The Supervisor is responsible for the operational leadership and coordination of Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) services at the U of A Hospital. This role ensures the safe, effective, and compliant reprocessing of reusable medical devices in accordance with Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards, Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C) guidelines, AHS policies, and applicable regulatory requirements. The Supervisor provides frontline leadership to MDR staff and is accountable for daily operations, workforce planning, quality assurance, and service delivery that supports Surgical Services and other clinical programs. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership and support to MDR staff, including scheduling, performance and attendance management, coaching, and recruitment. Ensure adherence to standardized processes for decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical devices. Monitor performance indicators and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and patient safety. Lead and participate in quality assurance activities, audits, incident reviews, and corrective action planning. Support accreditation readiness and compliance with CSA standards and AHS policies. Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners including Operating Room leadership, Infection Prevention & Control, Clinical Engineering, and site leadership. Promote workforce development through orientation, education, competency validation, and a respectful workplace culture aligned with AHS values and Just Culture principles. This role requires strong knowledge of sterile processing standards, leadership experience in a unionized healthcare environment, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume clinical setting.
