Job Summary
The Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of duties associated with laboratory tests and analyses. Work can involve but is not limited to : registration and collecting of bloods (inpatient, outpatient, ER patients and pediatric) and other specimens from patients, delivering specimens to the laboratory, sorting, recording, centrifuging, preparing samples for analysis, packaging specimens to transport to other testing locations, performing a variety of manual and automated tests, staining and cover-slipping of slides in various depts.

Job Demands
By applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to) :
Occasionally lifts or moves supplies generally not weighing in excess of 25 lbs and occasional carrying, pushing / pulling and lifting between 25-50 lbs.
Constantly stands, walks and bends or stretches into awkward positions when performing specimen collection procedures with patients.
Constantly there is a requirement for fine finger and precision work when using needles to extract specimens, and when palpating for veins, when entering data into the computer, and preparing specimen labels.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized program in Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant is required.
Training or experience in basic laboratory techniques.
Current and continuing certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a Medical Laboratory Assistant is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
