Educational Assistant

50% Regular (10 month work year)

$29.54 to 36.70 per hour

Under the direction of the Principal the Educational Assistant is an integral member of the school team and is responsible for the provision of support to students with exceptional needs within the school. The position involves dealing with confidential information and requires ongoing flexibility and variability. Responsibilities are varied in collaboration with teaching and other professional staff and include : supporting students with Autism SpectrumDisorder and students with developmental disabilities;participation in pool programs academic support implementing special programs support to deaf / hard of hearing or visually impaired students physiotherapy exercises and stretches.

Educational Assistants may be required to modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities and speech / language issues. Assignments may also include outside yard duties lifting toileting and / or pool duties. Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software such as Dragon and Kurzweil are assets.

Candidate Profile :

The successful candidate will possess a community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker Child and Youth Care / Worker or equivalent and a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with school aged special needs children. Equivalent programs must be assessed by People Culture and Leadershipstaff. Valid First Aid certification / CPR Level C is required. The successful candidate will have also completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention TCI and / or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS)training. Additional Comments :

• Responsibilities : work with students in our First Place program designed to support students who have been chronic non-attenders due to school-based anxiety. Classroom has a maximum of 15 grade 9 and 10 students and is staffed with one EA and one classroom teacher. Your work could include : development of social emotional skill building opportunities / lessons / activities; support of daily community walks that encourage socialization and physical activity; support in grade 9 and 10 courses; support of needs on an individual basis; support of classroom teacher field trip planning and execution daily activity planning and any other EA-related duties that may arise (including Breakfast Program supervision from 8 to 8 : 45 am daily).
