Salary range (but not limited to):

94,200 - 115,200

Annual bonus target, based on the base salary, with a potential payout of up to double the target (subject to personal and company performance):

Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well.

About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our Life Sciences team and play a key role in growing and developing an exciting new product segment for Intact Specialty in Canada.

This position is open to candidates in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.

What you’ll do here:

• Leverage the resources of a top specialty insurer and work in tandem with our established US Life Sciences practice to play a lead role in growing and developing Intact's Canadian Life Sciences segment

• Grow and develop a profitable book of business by leveraging business relationships, product knowledge and underwriting acumen. Maintain underwriting quality and book management, which includes: executing underwriting strategy, adhering to underwriting standards and guidelines, self-auditing new and renewal business and ensuring compliance with underwriting standards and authorities.

• Develop and maintain superior working relationships with our broker network to successfully achieve mutual growth and profitability goals, while providing a high level of service and product expertise. Identify gaps in coverage and/or services to create mutual opportunities with broker partners.

• Participate in broker visits, industry functions and marketing events, travel as necessary and remain highly visible in marketplace

• Provide ongoing support in expanding the department, and make recommendations for process improvements

• Provide guidance and technical advice to underwriters and underwriting assistants, mentor and coach junior team members, support team members within Specialty Solutions as well as other divisions at Intact

What you bring to the table:

• University degree/College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience

• Minimum 5 to 7 years of Commercial Underwriting experience with Life Sciences Product Liability, E&O and Cyber Underwriting experience being an asset

• Established broker relationships, with an ability to maintain and develop new relationships with all stakeholders

• Detail oriented, analytical, self-motivated and strive to deliver at a high standard

• Initiative and ability to work while managing competing priorities

• Strong team player, with outstanding collaboration and communication skills

• Interested in and stay up to date on business trends or other developments impacting our industry and customer segments

• Flexible to travel

• Strong knowledge in Excel is an asset

• CIP designation or working towards it
