The Opportunity

RVS invites applications for the on-call, casual position of Support Substitute (Learning Assistant) for the 2025-2026 school year. Support substitutes are called to work on an as needed basis, at any of our schools.

You must be available to work throughout the 2025-2026 school year, be accessible by telephone and internet, and provide your own transportation. Interviews will be held in person or via Zoom on an as needed basis.

Salary: $24.59 per hour

Responsibilities and Expectations

Support substitutes are called to work on an as needed basis, at any of our schools. The role may include assisting students as identified in their individualized programming plans (IPP) including those that require additional supports (e.g., personal care, toileting and feeding) as a Learning Assistant. The successful candidate will establish a rapport with students and support learning initiatives in collaboration with educational professionals to create a positive, safe, and optimal learning environment. They should be able to work independently as well as with a team, and stay up-to-date with changing technology.

• Ability to keep up-to-date with changing technology
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with a team of educational professionals
• Understanding of and commitment to supporting learning initiatives
• Ability to work with other staff members to create a positive, safe, and optimal learning environment
• Capacity to establish a rapport with students
• Ability to provide assistance to students as identified in IPPs, including those requiring additional supports

Education/Experience

• Education Assistant Certificate or enrolled/willing to enroll in an education assistant program
• Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour or willingness to become certified
• Training or experience working with students with extreme and complex behavioral and emotional needs in an educational setting

Pre-employment Requirements

• The successful candidate must submit a current Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check within 30 days of the start of employment.
• Applicants must provide a professional letter of reference, attached to the job application, from their most recent supervisor, relevant to the job opportunity, written on company letterhead, signed and dated within the past 18 months.
