The Team

Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving, award-winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank’s Corporate, Investment Banking, and Capital Markets businesses.

The Role

GBME is searching for Technical Specialist Advisory to liaison between business stakeholders and internal engineering and architect teams, ensuring solutions are developed and delivered on time, efficiently and with high quality for various projects within GBME.

The successful candidate will have a results-oriented and curious mindset with strong technical skills. You will work closely with cross functional teams, including engineers, solutions architects, and business teams to develop and implement market leading solutions that are scalable and deliver excellence, and value to our business partners and customers.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INITIAL PROJECT :

The candidate would be heavily involved in the build out of a Canadian Algo to Swap platform for SCI Electronic Execution Services (EES) clients. This system would facilitate EES clients transmitting orders to SCI for electronic execution of agency trades in Canadian equities. They would also be involved in the onboarding of future clients to this pipeline as well as future product enhancements and would work directly with the Prime Services and Electronic Execution Services trading desks.

KEY SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR PROJECT :

  • Extensive experience with Electronic Trading and Canadian market structure Strong communication skills and project management / business analysis experience
  • Systems design and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Background in related topics such as FIX, market data, trading applications, and market microstructure would be beneficial.
  • Previous experience working with the front office and the ability to work efficiently in a noisy and distracting trade floor environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to bridge between technical content and business objectives
  • Has the ability to work individually on a project or in a team environment.
  • Post-secondary degree in a technology field (Computer Science / Engineering) or relevant experience / skills set will be considered.
  • Some financial education (relevant courses, CSC, CFA…) or demonstrated capital markets experience would be an asset.

As part of the role, you’ll

  • Demonstrate an informed knowledge of business functions to resolve problems and capitalize on improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure business specifications / requirements documentation is accurately prepared and comprehensive to support sizing / development efforts and as input to various project documentation.
  • Develop and deliver Business Requirements Documents, Design Documents, Use Cases, and Process Models as required.
  • Participate in the development of detailed project plans, the monitoring of progress against planned objectives, the financial review, and securing consensus and co-operation from users and senior management.
  • Work closely across GBME technology teams during all stages of the system development life cycle and bridge the gap between business and technology sides of the solution.
  • Liaising between the business community and the IT organization to provide technical solutions that meet user needs.
  • Build relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues in Global regions.
  • Support production issues and handle escalations during Release cycles as needed.
  • Perform ad hoc work as needed.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working across multiple teams and functions to ensure alignment.
  • 3+ years practical experience and product business knowledge in capital markets.
  • Minimum 3 years’ working knowledge of databases such as SQL Server, with ability to create and run queries independently.
  • Experience working with all phases of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).
  • Proficient with Unix Tools, shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, etc.), SQL queries, PL / SQL, and SQL Loader - or equivalent
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new processes and standards, with a strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver working results.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • A recognized undergraduate degree or diploma in business administration, computer science or related field required.
  • Excellent working experience of Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • An understanding of the Bank’s application system and software from a business / technical viewpoint is required to assess the impact of development and / or changes to the overall data processing environment).
  • Experience managing projects that span change in front, middle or back-office systems and teams.
  • Experience with but not limited to PL / SQL, SQL Loader, UNIX Tools, shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python), JAVA, XML, HTML, is an asset.
