Utility Position – Domtar Port Mellon

The location in Port Mellon, BC is seeking talent to fill the position of Utility. This is a full‑time permanent role.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (formal education not required).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a chip plant and operating equipment for the plant.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to operate heavy equipment such as front‑end loader, forklift, telehandler and scissor lift.Knowledge of different log species.Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.Ability to adhere to all safety policies and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.Certifications and Licences
Valid driver’s licence highly preferred.Valid first‑aid level 3 certificate or willingness to complete the course will be given priority.Additional Requirements
Willingness to work various shifts, including weekends, and overtime as needed.Completion of pre‑employment screening processes, reference check, prior work verification.Ability to make it to and from work on a daily basis.Responsibilities
Conduct pre‑job equipment inspection.Perform all aspects of job safely.Tie up and check scows.Load scows to specifications.Scale scows.Keep scow float clean.Lubrication and adjustment of scow sleds.Use chainsaw to clear jams or deal with oversized logs.Assist other workers in area.Operate front‑end loader to load scows, load trucks, move chips, hogs, sawdust, etc.Operate forklifts, telehandlers and scissor lifts where needed.Keep work area clean and debris free.Assist in chipper knife changes, debarker changes, conveyor belt adjustments and repairs.Sharpen chipper knives.Other duties as assigned.General housekeeping in the plant such as cleanup of woodchip spillage from conveyors.Load logs with Rotobec.Operate Chipper Booth when needed.All other duties requested by management.Compensation
Hourly rate : $37.43.
