About the Role
As the Assistant Controller, you will play a key leadership role within our finance team. Reporting directly to the Controller, you will be responsible for supporting the financial operations of the company, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and helping to lead the accounting team in alignment with company goals and values. This role is both strategic and hands‑on, requiring a strong grasp of technical accounting, people leadership, and systems thinking.
For the retirement segment, the Assistant Controller will have the exciting opportunity to be part of a new line of business for the Group. They will be expected to jump in and play a large role in the implementation of a new accounting software and onboarding of the financial operations of a recent acquisition. They will then have a hands‑on role in the ongoing financial management, continuous process improvement, and future growth of the retirement segment.
Annual Salary Range : $90,000-$125,000

Implementation & Onboarding
Lead the onboarding of new assets into Westbow’s financial systems.Support selection and implementation of new accounting software.Document and improve current accounting and reporting processes to increase efficiency, accuracy and scalability.Test data accuracy, identify risks, propose internal controls, and train the accounting team.Financial Operations & Compliance
Oversee daily accounting operations (A / P, A / R, payroll, cash, GL entries), manage timelines and assist accounting team.Ensure accuracy of monthly / quarterly / annual financial statements.Research and resolve technical accounting issues; ensure compliance with GAAP, ASPE / IFRS.Assist in cash planning, corporate administration and financial risk management.Review and prepare complex accounting adjustments, reconciliations and financial statements.Lead preparation and review GST / PST returns and other government filings.Supervise and mentor junior and senior accounting staff.Manage team workloads and project timelines.Provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance support.Lead team meetings and support departmental communication.Strategic Initiatives & Year‑End
Manage preparation and review of all Year End (YE) files and ensure timely submission.Prepare more complex YE files; review those completed by junior / senior accountants.Propose and manage the accounting team’s annual budget in consultation with the Controller.Confirm accounting accuracy through queue reviews.Monitor the organization’s financial information needs and manage change by making recommendations for improvements.What We’re Looking For
5+ years accounting experience.Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in accounting.Strong knowledge of GAAP, ASPE / IFRS, and Canadian GST / PST.Advanced Excel and solid systems experience.Detail‑oriented, organized, analytical, and committed to continuous improvement.A strong communicator and people leader aligned with Westbow’s values.Ability to stay current with accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices.Detail‑oriented, analytical, and highly organized, with a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement.What You Can Expect from Us
