The Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC) is the training, governing, and regulatory body for over 40,000 CPA members and 6,000 CPA candidates.

Position : Student Recruitment Officer

Reports to : Manager, Student Recruitment

Contract Type : Indefinite, Full Time

Job Summary

The Student Recruitment Team at the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC) plays a crucial role in building awareness and attracting individuals to pursue the CPA profession. By engaging with potential students through various outreach programs, informational sessions, and partnerships with educational institutions, the team highlights the benefits and opportunities of becoming a CPA. They provide valuable resources and guidance to help prospective students understand the CPA pathway, including the rigorous training and ethical standards upheld by CPABC. Through these efforts, the student recruitment team ensures a steady influx of talented individuals who are prepared to bring superior financial expertise, strategic thinking, business insight, and leadership to organizations, thereby contributing to the profession’s growth and reputation.

The Student Recruitment Officer is responsible for building awareness and interest in accounting careers and the CPA designation, with a focus on an assigned market portfolio and / or region. The role increases visibility of the profession by coordinating events, delivering presentations, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, negotiating sponsorships, and providing career advisory services. Reporting to the Manager, Student Recruitment, the incumbent will specifically focus on assigned market group and region.

Key Responsibilities :

Event Planning and Outreach Activities

Deliver information sessions online and in-person to build awareness and interest in the CPA profession.

Plan, coordinate, and implement the logistics for recruitment initiatives, including marketing through various channels, liaising with venues, managing registrations, recruiting speakers / employers, hosting events, and collecting feedback through surveys.

Attend events at assigned schools and other partner organizations, speaking about the CPA program, and offering career advisory support to prospective students and candidates.

Assist stakeholder groups in promoting their events and finding volunteers or ambassadors to represent CPABC.

Identify career events and negotiate sponsorship agreements to support CPABC’s participation, enhancing CPA brand awareness among assigned market group and facilitating networking opportunities between employers and prospective students and candidates.

Actively promote CPABC services and events, including the CareerConnect Program that increase student interests and ultimately enrollment in CPA PREP and PEP programs.

Support the Senior Student Marketing Specialist in distributing marketing and communication materials, such as newsletters, events announcements, and social media posts to increase awareness and visibility of these initiatives.

Attend relevant internal and external events to network, build relationships, and promote the CPA profession, with stakeholders, prospective students and candidates.

Travel within the province of BC and / or Yukon to attend events, deliver presentations, and conduct meetings with stakeholders.

Oversee an assigned budget, tracking all expenses to ensure activities remain within budget and comply with the organization’s expenditure and reimbursement policies.

Career Advisory Services

Provide one-on-one career advisory services to help prospective students / candidates, understand the benefits of pursuing the CPA designation and guide them in making informed career decisions.

Support students in their career decision making and job pursuit, influencing their decision to pursue the accounting education and / or CPA designation after graduation.

Address prospective students’ inquiries promptly and professionally, providing accurate information and resources about the CPA program and career pathways.

Ensure ongoing professional development and learning by staying informed on program policies, recruitment trends, and industry & market trends to deliver effective and high-quality career support

Identify and understand the challenges or barriers to entry that individuals face and provide appropriate advice to help them overcome these obstacles.

Meet key performance metrics for career advisory appointments, and recruitment activities, ensuring consistent engagement with prospective students in one’s assigned market portfolio and region.

Maintain records of advisory appointments and measure outcomes to assess the effectiveness of career advisory efforts, contribute data and insights to weekly, quarterly, and annual reports.

Contribute to maintaining up-to-date resources, presentations, and website content to assist prospective students in navigating CPA program requirements and career options.

Stakeholder Relationship Management

Promote the CPA designation and brand in the marketplace by actively building relationships with stakeholders that contribute to accounting education or CPA careers.

Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including educational institutions, educators, career counselors, student groups, and industry partners that help connect with prospective students and candidates.

Regularly meet with stakeholders to learn about prospective students / candidates’ interests and market trends that inform management decision making.

Stay informed about the developments within the assigned market portfolio, schools, and region to gather and share insights about prospective students with manager.

Represent CPABC at various events and meetings to promote the CPA profession and strengthen partnerships through regular communication and ongoing relationship management.

Utilize gathered information on prospective students’ and candidates’ interests to make informed decisions, adjusting student recruitment activities to ensure they remain relevant and appealing to the assigned market portfolio.

Stay up to date on employer information and recruitment trends by collecting insights from the Employer Relations and Talent Development team to provide knowledgeable and quality career advisory services.

Occasionally attend employer recruitment events to gain insights into career opportunities and recruitment processes, supporting effective advising for prospectives students and candidates.

Update stakeholders on CPA program developments, career insights, and market trends to foster long-term engagement and educate them on promoting the profession.

Incorporate CPA volunteers and ambassadors into recruitment activities to broaden outreach efforts.

Other Duties

Perform additional responsibilities as required, including but not limited to supporting department initiatives, participating in organizational meetings and events, and adapting to evolving priorities to meet departmental and organizational goals.

Key Requirements :

Knowledge and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Education or a related field

Proven experience in student recruitment, event planning, career advising, or a related field.

Experience working with educational institutions and student groups is an asset

Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal

Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students, educators, industry partners, and professionals.

Willingness to travel within the province of BC and / or Yukon to attend and deliver events, presentations, and conduct meetings with stakeholders

Flexibility to work evenings and weekend are required for events and outreach activities.

Demonstrated Skills and Abilities

Strong attention to detail, refined organizational and time management skills

Proven ability to prioritize competing requirements and deadlines under pressure

Excellent presentation, facilitation and communication skills

Intermediate proficiency with MS Office and Adobe, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint

Proficiency in event management

Ability to travel up to 30% of the time to attend meetings and events, including in more rural areas across British Columbia

Must hold a valid B.C. driver’s license and have regular access to a vehicle, as the role requires travel within Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities

Registered International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) training through College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC), or willing to obtain this certification within one year of appointment

The starting annual salary for this position is between $66,550 and $79,000 per annum, based on candidates’ qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review.
