This position will be based on the client site, Pickering for 3 days a week.
Purpose :
- We are currently recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Engineer / First Line Manager (FLM). Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Toronto, Ontario.
- Ensure all engineering and design work performed adjusts to quality, cost and schedule requirements.
- Ensure all design work is safe and carried out in a safe manner.
- Ensure all design work conforms to the codes and standards used by the client, or to agreed industry standards.
- Take responsibility of a FLM (First Line Manager) for OPG.
Responsibilities :
Schedule & Deliverables :
Review and understand the project’s schedule.Review and Understand the SOW and the list of deliverables in assigned project.Resources Management :
Update the resource forecast to reflect changes in resources requirements.Assign appropriate resources to conduct the applicable reviews and oversight.Keep Program Director and Engineering Director updated.Conduct PJB as part of KOMsCoordinate with project admin staff for the Onboarding, Orange Batch, LAN access for the new hiresProcedural Adherence :
Be familiar with Worley (internal) and OPG processes and systems.Conduct routine oversight on the DTLs to ensure Vendor oversight guidelines are being followed.Be knowledgeable of and able to use OPG’S ECC or QDP process on a project.Review draft SCRs, prior to initiation.Be knowledgeable regarding the staff qualification requirementTechnical Deliverables :
Perform function of OPG Design Section Manager for the respective discipline.Conduct review of DSP EC Release packagesScorecard Reviews :
Perform FLM reviews of all DSP scorecards.Technical Supervision & Guidance :
Provide technical supervision and guidance to the DE / DTLs.Assist in resolving technical issues on the project.Key Interfaces
Project Administration : Inform Project Manager (PM) and / or Design Team Lead (DTL) of any issues that impact project, positively or negatively.Allocation of resources : Inform Engineering Manager and Program Director of future increases or decreases in resource needs.Manage customer’s expectations : Ensure customer is aligned on expectations for final deliverables.Other disciplines : Projects are multi-discipline efforts.Sharing information with other disciplines and understanding interdisciplinary interfaces is necessary for the FLM’s and the project’s success.Procurement and Vendor Interface : Understanding and supporting the procurement schedule is vital to ensure that design delivery is timely.Construction : Understanding and supporting constructability and participating in constructability reviews, lead to reduced construction costs and an improved schedule.Personnel Development : Assignment of work to and performance management of feedback for discipline staff.Work must be assigned considering employee strengths and development opportunities.Customer Relationship
As part of the Project Design Team, the FLM, together with the Engineering Manager, is in a perfect position to build a thorough customer relation.System and activities which enable the build up of this customer relation are for instance :KOMs and regular project meetingsAlignment sessions with customer (when needed) to define Safety in Design and Sustainability Design goalsCollaborative Review MeetingsMeetings
Keep meeting records or Action Lists for all meetings to document decisions and status of required actions.Assign different team members to present Safety Moment and wherever possible, make the topic engineering related.Raise discipline and interdisciplinary issues and concerns at weekly Meetings.Conduct weekly discipline meeting with team members.Ensure that customer meetings (including phone calls and emails) are documented, as applicable.Conduct vendor meetings as necessary for critical equipment.Conduct Design Review Meetings as appropriate.What you will bring :
Technical and Industry Experience :
Working experience in Nuclear and Power Generation Facilities. Experience working on a site location.Should have all required OPG qualifications.Working knowledge of OPG ECC process, governance, and experience in OPG Asset Suite 7.Having OPG Orange Badge is an asset.Working experience leading different phases of Engineering Projects; from early stages up to Detailed Engineering.Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills and ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate and timely work to Worley and its customers.A sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of the mechanical engineering, and the basic requirements of other engineering fields.A sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements.Competent use of mechanical engineering specific software.Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.Substantial technical land practical experience in mechanical engineering in the same or similar industry including experience in working in multi-disciplinary projects and teams.Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training :
Required :
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.Lead level of direct Mechanical design, engineering & site experience.PEng. registered in the Province of Ontario.Existing and current nuclear security clearances as asset. All candidates selected will have to go through a clearance check before going to site.Relevant postgraduate qualifications in engineering, management, project management or supervisory qualifications or equivalent.
