Benefits Administrator (Wage Loss and Disability Claims Administration)

The Waterfront Employers of British Columbia (WEBC) is a not-for-profit third-party administrator, responsible for administering health and welfare benefits as well as pension plans for over 18,500 active members, pensioners and dependents.

At WEBC, Benefits Administrators apply plan rules, adjudicate claims, calculate entitlements, and authorize payments under established pension and benefit plans. This position is not an internal human resources role and does not involve employee onboarding or benefits plan design.

Role Overview

We are seeking a sound decision-maker with strong problem-solving skills and a customer-focused outlook.

Reporting to the Manager, Benefits Administration, the Benefits Administrator will work closely with team members in the delivery of pension and benefits services to the waterfront workforce, and gain exposure to the thriving maritime industry in BC.

Working as a member of the Case Management Claims team, the Benefits Administrator will support the administration and adjudication of federally regulated leave as well as wage loss and disability claims, including application of plan rules, processing of payments and handling of complex and confidential customer service inquiries regularly, both on the phone and in person. Success will require competence in interpreting plan texts and making payment decisions.

This position will also learn and support the Claim Services team where needed, in the adjudication and payment of Dental, Drug and Extended Health claims.

Training and onboarding support will be provided to ensure familiarity with WEBC’s plans and systems.

WEBC is hiring for two positions. Current opportunities include one full-time permanent role and one full-time term contract (maternity leave replacement) through November 2027.

  • Problem-Solver :   You are analytical, comfortable with numbers and can easily interpret plan details and then adjudicate claims based on eligibility and benefit provisions.
  • Trusted Team Member :  You are a self-starter who can work independently and who sees the value of collaboration and creating an environment where the pension and benefits team can be successful together.

Requirements

  • Experience adjudicating claims or applying benefit / insurance policy provisions is strongly preferred. Comparable experience in an insurance, disability, or benefits administration will be considered.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft office applications
  • Proficient with formula calculations both manually and in Excel
  • Previous experience in benefits administration and CEBS designation (complete or in process) is an asset
  • Full-time five (5) days per week (8 hours per day) during regular business hours

    Salary range : $60,000-$65,000 annually
