About the Position

Co-op Term: 4-month term, May - September

Reporting to one of the City’s finance managers, this position will have the opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of financial functions that support a local municipal government including budget preparation, financial reporting, revenue billing and collection. This position will perform a variety of finance tasks including preparing financial reconciliations, recording transactions, preparation and distribution of tax/water bills, and assisting with variance analysis and financial reporting.

Duties & Responsibilities

The duties listed are not meant to provide a description of each and every job performed but only those which represent the core functions of the job.

• Recording transactions into the City’s financial system and preparation of journal entries.
• Preparing working papers to support the audited consolidated financial statements including reconciliations to ledger and related note disclosures.
• Provide analytical support to the budget development and financial variance analysis.
• Assist with the preparation of variance reports, year-end financial statements or budget reports.
• Organize and track information received from Public Works concerning water meter maintenance, switch outs and meter tampering.
• Maintain and update tax and water/sewer accounts.
• Provide excellent customer service through telephone inquiries.
• Assist with the mailing of the water and sewer bills.
• Assist in special projects including researching and summarizing accounting policy changes, budget assumptions, financial metrics comparisons and implementing new systems.
• All other duties as assigned.

What you need to Succeed...

• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary Business Administration or Accounting degree program.
• Previous accounting experience would be an asset.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
• Strong research, analytical and interpretation skills.
• Possesses strong computer‑troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with Accounting Software is considered an asset.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Attention to details and a strong customer service focus.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary and Benefit Information

$21.48/hour (2026 rate) plus OMERS pension is available
